Members of the Kowa Party have condemned the re-instatement of suspended Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme, Mr. Usman Yusuf by President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC, led Federal Government and called for his immediate sack and hand over to anti graft agencies for prosecution. National Secretary of Kowa Party, comrade Mark Adebayo made the call, yesterday, during a media briefing on the state of Nation, held at Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Secretariat, Lagos State Council, Iyalla, Ikeja.

The party stressed that the immediate arrest and prosecution of the NHIS boss became necessary following serious allegations of fraudulent acts leveled against him while in office. The Minister of Health Prof Isaac Adewole after obtaining due clearance from the office of Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, and in consonance with extant rules of the civil service asked Yusuf to proceed on indefinite suspension to give level playing field to an investigative panel to carry out its assignment on more than 50 petitions submitted against NHIS boss. Yusuf was alleged to have boasted only President Buhari could suspend or remove him from office. Yusuf was recently, reinstated to the office by President Buhari despite the barrage of allegations against him while he held sway as the boss of the agency. The party maintained that the suspension of Yusuf was the outcome of a ministerial committee set up to probe his leadership of the agency and the “the revelations are too gruesome and can not be ignored.” Kowa Party continued: “Usman Yusuf has been a regular visitor to Economic and Financial Crime Commission,

EFCC office in Abuja, as we speak his Intrternational Passport has been seized to show the gravity of the case. One wonders, with this type of situation, why a government that prodes itself as fighting corruption would recall such a man without allowing the law to take its course. The party accused the Presidency of having a cabal tagged “the Katsina mafia or Northern Cabal” which seems to have plaved them above citizens from other states, or geo political zones of the country and above the law. “When Yusuf was suspended, eight other senior officers of NHIS, who are, Femi Akingbade, John Okon, Owen Udo, Innocent Abbah, Vincent Mamdam, were also suspended, till date, none of them has been recalled , yet Presidency reinstated Yusuf, is this because he is a kinsman to the President. This is an act of favouritism and nepotism.” The party therefore, maintained that if President Buhari must recover a little bit of his anti-corruption stance, he must sack the recalled NHIS Executive Secretary and should be handed over immediately to anti graft agencies for proper prosecution. “There have been mant instances of flagrant abuse of due process and arrogant flouting of established extant rules by those favoured by the APC administration with consistent  impunity simply because of where they come from in the country.

The current administration seems to run on a fuel of lie. It claims to have taken the cointry out of recession, it is a lie. It claims to be tackling the mass killing by killer herdsmen, it is a lie,” Kowa stated. While commiserating with the government and people of Benue, Taraba, Adamawa and other cold-blooded mass murders of Nigeria without FG’s intervention, the party urged the state governors to rise to the occasions and secure their people from destructive onslaughts of the marauding killer herdsmen. “It does seem true the allegations of nepotism even in the way this government has refused to act in defence of the defeceless Nigerians. Nepotism is the lowest and least imaginative form of corruption in Nigeria today,” Adebayo said.
