The Zamfara State House of Assembly has suspended the Shinkafi Local Government Area Chairman, Alhaji Sani Galadi, from office for alleged diversion of N23m support fund for banditry victims in the area.

According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the House, Mr Mustafa Jafaru-Kaura, on Saturday in Gusau, Galadi was suspended for three months.

The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Galadi was suspended at the Assembly’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Nasiru Magarya, on Friday.

The statement read, “The decision followed an interim report submitted by the Chairman, House Committee on Public Petitions, Yusuf Kanoma (Peoples Democratic Party, Maru North) alleging that Galadi diverted N23m meant to support victims of armed banditry attacks.

“After careful study and subsequent deliberations of the report on the floor of the House, the lawmakers unanimously agreed to suspend the council chairman for three months, pending the completion of the Assembly’s investigation into the matter.”

Meanwhile, Galadi would be the second local government area chairman to be suspended from office by the state Assembly.

The Chairman of Maradun Local Government Area, Mr Ahmed Abubakar, was the first to be suspended by the House two months ago for an alleged security breach in his area.

At the plenary on Friday, the House extended Abubakar’s suspension by six months, after receiving progress report on him.
